Q&A with Dylan (AKA the Duke of Dentistry)
“Ask better questions.”
Dom Johnson
I asked our chief dentistry correspondent, Dylan Kovar, a few questions about oral health via a game of Smash or Pass. It was actually a very illuminating and informative discussion (against my best efforts). See for yourself!
SMASH OR PASS?
Invisalign?
“Smash.”
Nice. Red Bull?
“Sugar-free for sure. But it’s still really acidic. If you need it, try to drink it quickly. Sipping on acidic drinks is far worse for your teeth. And don’t brush your teeth for at least 45 minutes after eating or drinking anything acidic.”
*panicks* Would a straw help?
“Won’t help much. It would only help direct staining to the molars.”
Floss picks?
“Eh, they’re good as an aid to flossing, but not as a replacement. So smash if used in conjunction with brushing/flossing, pass if used instead.”
Wisdom teeth?
“Ask better questions.”
Drills?
“Smash.”
Incisors?
“Next question.”
Veneers?
“That depends on far too many factors and I wouldn’t want to do a disservice to your readers by giving too generalized an answer.”
At-home teeth whitening?
“Smash. But if you have sensitivity, avoid products with bleach.”
Professional teeth whitening?
“Smash if you want more immediate results. Though, you’ll probably experience more sensitivity than from at-home products.”
Tooth fairy?
*Dylan doesn’t respond*
Tooth fairy, I said.
“That’s paganism. Pass.”
That’s it!

The Big Summer of Austin Reaves!
“The Cousin Greg of the NBA.”
Joel Moisa
Austin Reaves of the Los Angeles Lakers was already having a big summer after playing a pivotal role in helping Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers reach the Western Conference Finals.
Thankfully, the Lakers and Austin agreed to a contract that gave him the most money the team could offer, given his contract stipulations. His decision garnered favor from fans who were excited to see he wanted to stay despite potentially leaving money on the table had he entered free agency.
Later in the summer, Austin joined Team USA for the FIBA World Cup which furthered his development but ultimately came to a disappointing end with the team placing 4th in the tournament.
Regardless, Austin's impressive game awareness and confidence are going to help pick up the slack for the aging Lebron James and for Anthony Davis who is often bailing the team out on defense.
NFL Small Talk
“Another chaotic win”
Joel Moisa
Kansas City Chiefs & Miami Dolphins
The Kansas City Chiefs are the least-fun Super Bowl contenders to watch. This weekend, the Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 21-14. The Chiefs scored all 21 points in the first half and then their offense stalled in the second half.
More specifically, the offense only scored 14 points and the defense forced and recovered a fumble at the expense of Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs' defense continues to be their saving grace — which is new for a team that has one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
The Miami Dolphins’ record fell to 6-3. More notably, the Dolphins fell to 0-3 against teams with a winning percentage over .500.
That being said, with Jalen Ramsey joining the fold alongside their already explosive defense, the Dolphins still pose a huge threat to the league as Super Bowl favorites.
Joey B and the Cincinnati Bengals are back!
The Cincinnati Bengals are on a four-game winning streak, thanks to injury-free Joe Burrow. With his incredible mobility and his ability to keep plays alive, Burrow keeps stunning defensive lines.
He puts defenses on their heels with his readiness to find the open man or run to a first down.
Paired with Joe Mixon, Tee Higgins, and Ja'Marr Chase this team is an offensive juggernaut.
Additionally, defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is putting together an elite defense that could catapult the team to its first-ever NFL championship.
The Philadelphia Eagles are confusing!
We got another chaotic win from the Philadelphia Eagles who managed to defeat the Dallas Cowboys.
The Eagles rose to a league-best 8-1 and the Cowboys fell to a respectable 5-3.
The last four Eagles games were interesting:
A confusing loss to the Jets
A confident win against the Dolphins
A chaotic win against the Washington Commanders
And this odd win against the Cowboys
Against Dallas, The Eagles defense struggled with penalties on the last drive of the game. But ultimately, they found a way to stop the Cowboys, force a fumble, and win the game.
This makes the Eagles one of the most confusing teams in the NFL.

.Try this recipe from Dylan (aforementioned Dental Duke) for his Bare Bone’s Whiskey Sour. It’s quite good: Gather 1 oz. simple syrup, 1.5 oz. bourbon, 2 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice and a dash of Angostura bitters. Shake well with ice. If you like it a little extra foamy, add one egg white prior to shaking.
That covers it!
Thanks so much for reading. 😁 See you again soon for Vol. 22. In the meantime, don’t forget to floss or Dylan will have a panic attack.
Dylan passing on Paganism??? Triple Goddess will not be pleased
