NFL Small Talk: Dallas Cowboys
“The Cowboys latest win legitimizes them. But they’re still falling short of the 49ers.”

I accidentally started enjoying football
“It’s so humiliating.”
Dom Johnson
Historically, I’ve found football—and most sports—boring. That’s mostly still true.
But lately, something odd has been happening: I’ll literally sit down on a literal couch to watch an actual football game, and I’ll unironically have a nice time with my literal family.
Please don’t tell anyone…it’s so humiliating.
I blame my pals Samirah and Joel (and my ugly brother Donnie). They talk about football the same way I talk about Taylor Swift, astrology, RuPaul’s Drag Race, houseplants, family drama, etc.
I’m not going to buy one of those disgusting foam fingers or anything. But if I happen to witness the Cowboys molly-wop the Philadelphia Evils, I will enjoy myself. Probably.
So I’d like to thank Joel and Samirah for teaching me about something I famously didn’t care about and didn’t ask for. Seriously, it’s nice to like things.
With that in mind, here are some thoughts from Joel about the Dallas Cowboys molly-wopping the Eagles last Sunday.
The Cowboys’ latest win legitimizes them — but they’re still falling short of the 49ers
“I’m happy for the Cowboys despite my allegiance to the Philadelphia Eagles.”
Joel Moisa
Sunday Night Football Recap: Eagles vs. Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys put together a solid win defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 33-13, splitting their conference series with them.
The Cowboys also claim the current top spot in the NFC East.
The Cowboys earned the #2 seed in the NFC and are second only to the San Francisco 49ers.
Standout Players
I’d like to shout out Dakota Prescott who put together a great game and showed the world he can take the pressure of a low-key important match.
The defense showcased their toughness and forced three crucial fumbles.
Micah Parsons continues to terrorize offensive linemen and be the anchor of one of the best defenses in the league.
Stephon Gilmore also put together an incredible game against top Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown.
Takeaways
This win is great for their credibility and silences some of the haters. Now, the Cowboys have beaten the Seattle Seahawks and the Philadelphia Eagles: two teams in a row with a winning percentage higher than .500.
My biggest (not even a big one) concern for the Dallas Cowboys is that their kicker, Brandon Aubrey, scored 15 points, almost half of their total score. His efforts included: Three field goals over 50 yards (one for 60) and three extra points.
It makes me think that if the Cowboys play the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara on a windy day, they could suffer another embarrassing loss and fall short of a Super Bowl.
But I’m happy for the Cowboys despite my allegiance to the Philadelphia Eagles. And I’m confident the Eagles can find ways to adjust their game and stay competitive.
I feel like the Eagles have enjoyed so much success that they’ve forgotten what it’s like to not magically pull out a win at the last minute.
But that’s just my take.
Here are a few thoughts from our friends about recent NFL happenings:
“This is a very accurate take, and not only that, but we need to score actual touchdowns as well to compete with the high-powered offense the 9ners have. But yes I’m very worried.” - Don Johnson Jr. (said in response to Joel’s concern about the Cowboys relying on their kicker too much).
“The Cowboys are a talented team with no real coaching advantage and evidence shows they might be mentally weak. It is what it is.” — Samirah Swaleh
“After a terrible Thursday night game for the Chargers, they fired their head coach Brandon Stanley and general manager Tom Telesco.” — Roger “The One Who Knocks” Robertson-Slickback III (this is a pseudonym, of course)
“Without Kenny Pickett this week, will the Steelers look to Mitch Tribusky who just had a terrible game? Or will they try something new with Mason Rudolph?” — Roger “The One Who Knocks” Robertson-Slickback III
“Dom is gonna win our Fantasy Football league, isn’t he?” — Samirah Swaleh (said in disbelief)
It’s your turn to say something
Do the Cowboys stand a chance against the Eagles? Who should play J*rry Jones in a movie about his life? Did Brandon Stanley deserve to be fired? Or is there any other football stuff on your mind? Let us know in the comments.
